New DEGREE firmware update
Apr 1, 2026
Here are a few improvements to the DEGREE firmware which are worth exploring:
1) New VCO Calibration routine:
I initially shipped the DEGREE with an auto-calibration routine that admittedly just wasn’t very stable / predictable. At the time it was the only way I knew how to do it, but that was almost 3 years ago now and I have since learned a few things.
In this new firmware update the tuning algorithm of the DEGREE has been refined to give a very quick and precise calibration of the VCOs in your system. It only takes a few seconds and the results give you pitch perfect tuning across 5 octaves. Once all your oscillators have been calibrated it will make your system sound like a lush poly-synth. I highly recommend exploring this feature.
For details on how to run the calibration routine, check out the “VCO Calibration” section in the DEGREE manual.
2) Reduced current draw:
This new firmware also reworks the configuration of the on-board LED drivers, consequently reducing the current draw by almost 60mA (which is a lot!).
